The lovely Giessenpark with its lake invites you to take a stroll.
Lake Giessen is a still lake formed from a tributary of the Rhine. The lake, as the locals call it, had formerly two important functions: firstly, as a place where young people enjoyed fun, games and sport and secondly, it provided ice-pegs, sawn out and used to keep the beer-cellar at an uniformly cool temperature for the storage of the beer in the depot.
But sport history was also written on the frozen over Lake Giessen. The Ragaz Hockey Club was first class and here, every winter, the association championship matches are played.
Today at one spot the overflow of thermal water is led into the lake and thus only a part of the lake now freezes over in the cold winter. However there is enough of it frozen to allow guests and local to watch exciting ice-hockey matches and elegant skating dancers.
