The first cold chamber in Switzerland

Bad Ragaz

The cold therapy for the entire body develops its effectiveness through a shock-like chilling of the body's surface down to a temperature of below 5° C. This is achieved by a stay of 2-3 minutes at a temperature of minus 110°C in a special room, the so-called Cold Chamber.
The patient is thereby perpetually in motion, he wears bathing trunks together with mouth-, nose- and ear protections as well as gloves, shoes and stockings as a means of protecting the extremities (fingers, toes, etc). There follows a period of 2 to 3 hours in which the pain is to a great extent reduced, the circulation improved and the muscles loosened up. This period can be used for a specifically targeted movement therapy. A repetition of the treatment can lead to a long duration positive effect with reduction of pain and improved mobility.
