Amden-Weesen offers all climbing enthusiasts very beautiful, special climbing routes.
For example there are the well known "galleries" on the way from Weesen to Amden. This area above the gallery tunnels has become very popular thanks to its southern aspect and the minimum ascent. Even in winter, when the sun shines, one can climb in an agreeable temperature. And the climbers are rewarded in addition with a wonderful view of Lake Walen down below.
The second popular area for mountaineering friends is the climbing-garden "Schibächnölli". This offers splendid training opportunities and is also suitable for roped parties. The approx. 150 m high rock bastion of the "Schibächnölli" is in the Mattstock's south-eastern flank above the Mattstock chair-lift. In the 1960s Carlo Emery lived out to the full his direttissima-dreams. Witness of that to this day are the hook-ladders partly with more than 100 bore-hooks.
That this rock is also for free climbing is shown by the more than 20 new routes of the year 1991.
All climbing areas are accessible via public transport.
