The Kunkels Pass- once used extensively by the ancient Romans. To avoid the marshy plain of the Rhine between Sargans and Chur the Porta Romana led from Pfäfers via Vättis to Tamins. The free Valaisans also used the pass to get to the markets of the Graubünden.
A splendid roundtrip encicling the impressive massif of the Calanda in the wild, romantic landscape. Particularly rewarding if you take the direction suggested, as the descent is much longer than the ascent.
The first half in the Rhine valley at Chur follows the well-used cycle path. Proper mountain-bike terrain with fairly steep gradients comes at Tamins towards the Kunkels Pass. The descent is long and leads through the wonderful Tamina valley. Without exception, asphalt roads and lovely nature. Of course, one can do the tour in the opposite direction: a longer climb and less steep.

Only use a technically perfect bicycle. Before every tour carefully test brakes, gears, tyres and cables.
Never ride across country. Use only adequately broad ways or signposted routes. Prohibted is cycling on alpine meadows, high moors and in forests.
Show consideration for other users of the paths. Pedestrians always have right of way.
Respect flora and fauna. If possible, never cycle during twilight, leave the wild animals to enjoy the quiet. Be in full command of your machine and do not leave skid marks behind.
Comply with the directives of the forest and alpine staff.
