Wandering in Heidi's footsteps through Maienfeld.
The smaller Heidi Path - Maienfeld
Starting off point for the shorter Heidi Path is the railway station in Maienfeld (510 m. a.s.l.). From there the route leads past Castle Brandis through the narrow lanes of the historical little town of Maienfeld. Beyond the outskirts of the town the path goes left into the vineyards in which the grapes for the excellent Blauburgunder wine are ripening. Soon you reach the Heidi fountain. This landmark was created by the artist Hans Walt in 1953 as a memorial to the authoress Johanna Spyri. Here one can sit down at one or other of the numerous open-air grills or go further in the direction of the Heidi hamlet (660m a.s.l.). The authentic Heidi house was turned into a museum and shows how Heidi lived here over a 100 years ago. From the Heidi hamlet the path leads via Rofels back to Maienfeld. The walking tour lasts approx. 1.5 hours; ordinary walking shoes are sufficient.
