Since 1999, through the activities of regional planning and tourism organizations as well as management and industrial enterprises, the attractions in the domain of mining and geology for cultural and experience tourism have been expanded, optimized and linked up.

A future Unesco world natural inheritance - the Glarner Main Fault? For the last two years the boundary area of the cantons St Gallen, Glarus and Graubünden has been prepared for admission to the Unesco world natural inheritance list. The central element is the Glarner Main Fault, easily recognizable from afar and known worldwide to geological experts. During many decades decisive knowledge about the origin of mountain masses has been obtained from studying it. In the meantime all 19 communities and municipalities concerned as well as the three cantons have commissioned the federal government to apply formally for admission of this enduring unique natural phenomenon.
