The artillery fort Magletsch was built during World War II and can be visited today.
The artillery fort Magletsch ("The Hammer") was built during the Second World War and formed the most northerly corner-post of the Sargans stronghold. The army reform of 1995 involved the closing down of large artillery works, and thus the installation of national importance can be visited by guided groups.
On your tour of inspection you receive a vivid impression of the threatening situation at the time the fort was constructed and you can also see the infrastructure of the works. The highlight of your tour is the visit to the 10.5 calibre tower gun, reached after ascending 136 steps.
