Tamina Gorge

Bad Ragaz

In this splendid place the bathing culture of former centuries can be re-lived skin-deep.
A source of hospitality in a wild, romantic site.

The visitor to the Tamina Gorge experiences the immense power of water in the most impressive manner. And in the gorge centre is the oldest baroque bath-house in Switzerland, the Old Baths Pfäfers, still receiving guests today. Walk along the paths of history to the source of the healing waters of Pfäfers.

The Old Baths Pfäfers has been dedicated since the beginning to the well-being of humanity, formerly as a cure spa, today as a place of recuperation and hospitality. Bad Pfäfers closed down in 1969, demolition was under discussion. Finally it was restored, in three stages. Today the monastery and baths museum with changing exhibitions, the neo-Gothic Baths Chapel and the gorge are open to the visitor. A pleasant restaurant offers a welcome pause.

First mentioned in a document of 1382, the healing craft of the water was already appreciated in the early years of the foundation of the Swiss confederation. The first doctor of the Baths in 1535 was none other than the famous physician, natural scientist and philosopher Paracelsus (1493 - 1541).
