Carving wooden masks is an old tradition in Flums, one that is alive and thriving today and preserved by many woodcarvers. The traditional masks – called "Larven" – depicted typical human features in a distorted form, later appearing as demonic, fiendish witch-like grimaces. One especially famous woodcarver in Flums is Hugo Reichlin who is a real character and a skilled woodcarver. In his mask cellar you can find out a lot about the art and tradition of the Larven and marvel at numerous examples of Larven and other unusual works of art. Many of Hugo Reichlin’s stories will make you smile or astonish you.
The Mask Cellar is open daily, except Wednesdays.
