Wartau

The "Burgruine Wartau" (castle ruin) is the landmark which gave the town its name, namely the "Warte ob der Au" (the lookout on the Au)

An historical site. On Alp Palfris there are traces of an ancient Walser settlement.  (The Walsers were nomads in the 13th and 14th centuries who travelled through the Alps.)

The popular destination, situated north of Sargans, is an ideal hiking and holiday area, especially for families. Above all, excursions to the Alviergipfel (summit), the Gonzen, the Tschuggen or to Palfries (also reachable by car or mountain bike) reward you with sensational views over the holiday region of Heidiland and the Rheintal (valley).
